When discussing the different modes of transportation, road transportation is often the central focus of the discussion. This stems from the fact that road transport is the most common mode of transport, and by virtue, transportation using motor vehicles (particularly cars) is the most common means of transportation. A study by the World Health Organisation found that "approximately 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic accidents" (WHO, 2022). Due to this drastic figure, it is important to analyse road accidents to understand the happenings that occur during a crash.

Since real-life problems can be modelled by mathematical equations, we selected a research paper that utilises mathematical modelling and Ordinary Differential Equations to simulate a car crash. This paper ultimately simplified the process of a car crash using mathematical modelling.
